1. To obtain US dollars for your trip to the US for higher education, you should contact

the bank where you currently hold an account (or where your parents hold an account if you do not have one). Inform the bank that you will be traveling abroad for higher studies and need US dollars. Ask what documents will be required to process the request, and provide the necessary documents such as identification and proof of enrollment in a US educational institution. Below mentioned documents will be sufficient.

  • Passport with U.S. visa
  • University I-20
  • No Objection Letter (NOC)
  • Booked Airline Ticket from Nepal to US
  • Bank Account and sufficient balance to receive U.S dollars
  • Citizenship (May be needed to verify details)

2. Go to the bank with above documents and exchange nepali currency to US currency upto $1,500.

It usually takes 3-4 hours for a bank to complete all processes and provide you US dollars.
